Reading, PA

Overlooking the city on Mount Penn is Reading's symbol, a Japanese-style pagoda visible from almost everywhere in town and referred to locally as "The Pagoda". It was built in 1908 as a hotel and restaurant, but was never used for that purpose.

The city lent its name to the now-defunct Reading Railroad, which is one of the four railroad properties in the classic United States version of the Monopoly board game.
During the general decline of heavy manufacturing, Reading was one of the first localities where outlet shopping became a tourist industry. It has been known as "The Pretzel City" because of numerous local pretzel bakeries. However, now there is only one which is the Unique Pretzel Factory. Reading is also known as "Baseballtown," after the Reading Phillies an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies trademarked this moniker to market Reading's rich baseball history.
The city has been the residence of numerous professional athletes of national stature. Among the athletes native to Reading are Baltimore Colts running back, Lenny Moore, and former NBA player Donyell Marshall.

The debate continues...

Ben Stein's new movie comes out on Friday, April 18th. The film is in support of Intelligent Design and documents how several college professors have felt the fall out of not agreeing with Darwinism. Check out the trailer (but ignore its release date).

Also, Time magazine's latest edition hypes the flick.

Today is also the tragic, one-year anniversary of the massacre at Virginia Tech.

Lastly, Obama and Clinton face-off in the last battle before the big Pennsylvania Primary next Tuesday. Both have come out with hard-hitting ads :

Political Paintball

As the primaries are getting nasty, some say the candidates should duke it out in a real paintball battle. Who would win? You can decide for yourself by playing the game "Political Paintball."

Furthermore, it's Super Bowl XLII in Tempe, Arizona, pitting the New York Giants vs. New England Patriots. Can the Giants pull off the biggest Super Bowl upset since Broadway Joe's Jets defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Colts?

Romney wins Michigan!!!

Mitt Romney wins his firstt big primary in the state where he grew up and his father was governor.

Hillary Clinton won the Democratic primary in Michigan, but many candidates including Barack Obama and John Edwards did not put their names on the ballot because the state moved up the date of its primary.

However, there was a democratic debate last evening in Las Vegas, with the Nevada and South Carolina primaries looming.
